Bitterroot has a population of over 36,000 and boasts views of Bitterroot Mountains to the west and Sapphire Mountains to the east.

Having sunlight for 69% of the day during the summer, the days are long and comfortable in Bitterroot Valley and the nights are cool and clear. You can partake in some of our summer activities such as hiking, fishing, swimming, camping and horseback riding. Thrill seekers can enjoy guided wilderness tours or rock climbing in the Bitterroot Mountains.

Spring is the season where new life comes back into the region. Apple blossoms start to appear in the foothills while the Bitterroot River comes back to life with the melting of the previous winter’s snow. The winters in Bitterroot Valley are generally mild hence the nickname 'Banana Belt of Montana'. It usually doesn’t snow over 6 inches but you can expect 300 inches of powder at the Lost Trail Ski Resort, which is a major winter time activity for residents and visitors alike. If skiing is not your activity of choice, there are plenty of options which include fly fishing, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking and more.

Stevensville which is centrally located in the middle of the valley has much of the same outdoors appeal as the rest of the Bitterroot valley. Stevensville is a friendly community that has activities ranging from the “Stevensville Farmers Market” to the “Festival of Trees Dinner & Auction”, once you are part of the Stevensville community, you are part of a family.

I have lived in Bitterroot Valley for a good portion of my life and have to say that I could not imagine living anywhere else in the world. How many people can say that they are truly happy where they live? I can! I have traveled to many places over the years and still have not found a city or people that will greet you with the open arms that the residents and business professionals of Bitterroot Valley will.
